Give priority to Ghanaians in oil contracts-NRGI
The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) is demanding that Ghanaians are given priority in the awarding of contracts in the upstream petroleum sector.
This comes after the Energy ministry revealed that Ghanaian companies in the oil and gas sector have received close to 600 million dollars in contracts since Ghana started drilling oil in 2010.
Ghana has earned in excess of 2.1 billion dollars from the commercial production and export of crude from 2011 to June 2014.
But the Africa Regional coordinator of NRGI, formerly Revenue Watch, Emmanuel Kayole says Ghana must work hard to get optimum benefit from the oil and gas industry.
Meanwhile a report compiled by oil and gas recruitment experts, Hays Oil and Gas, and industry researchers, Oil and Gas Job Search has identified Ghanaian workers as among the least paid in the world compared to others.
