South Africa’s Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) said on Sunday it had agreed to take a new wage offer from mining company Sibanye Gold.
“We as AMCU accept Sibanye Gold’s new wage offer as voted for unanimously … by our members today,” AMCU said on its official Twitter account.
Sibanye Gold (JSE: SGL AND NYSE: SBGL) entered into discussions with the leadership of AMCU on April 6, as a result of which AMCU agreed to suspend any industrial action at Sibanye’s operations, while engagement continued with its leadership and other representative unions.
“As previously stated, management at Sibanye is committed to ensuring that the interests of all stakeholders are considered and protected, and that the viability and sustainability of our business is maintained. We will continue to engage constructively with AMCU leadership in an attempt to ensure a favourable outcome for all stakeholders”, said Sibanye CEO, Neal Froneman.
