  • Tullow Ghana recently sponsored a two-day seminar on oil and gas for editors from selected local on-line and print media at Koforidua, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Attendees included more than 20 representatives of publications such as the Daily Graphic, the Ghana News Agency, Joy FM and Citi FM.

The convention was organised by PenplusBytes and the Ghana Journalists Association and was aimed at ensuring a deeper understanding of the oil and gas sector in the Ghanaian media to support accuracy in reporting. Topics covered included global industry trends, oil and gas revenue management in Africa, the role of the Ghanaian Parliament in revenue management, and transparency and accountability. There was also a discussion on how to stimulate oil and gas reporting in the local media.

Gayheart Mensah, Communications and Investor Relations Manager for Tullow Ghana, also presented an overview of the Jubilee Operations since the discovery of oil and Tullow’s future in Ghana. Speaking at the event he said:

“Oil and gas is a huge topic for the media in Ghana, but it’s also a new topic for most, and all of the speakers here today can help editors to understand it better.  For Tullow it’s important that we help build capacity and understanding in all areas related to our industry, so we’re delighted to sponsor an event that will help the whole country to understand oil and gas through the media.”

Guest speakers included the President of the GJA, Ransford Tetteh, editor of the Daily Graphic, Albert Kan- Dapaah, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Ghana’s Parliament, Major (rtd) Daniel Ablorh-Quarcoo, Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee and Mohammed Amin Adam, West Africa, oil and gas expert and Director of IBIS, a Dutch Non-Governmental Organization.
