New Mining Policy? Seeks to Regulate Mining Operations Before Cabinet

  • Miners_1A new Mining Policy that seeks to comprehensive regulate operations and address present challenges in the mining sector is presently before cabinet.

    The policy which aims at tightening the loose knot on issues such as galamsey is expected to go through all the legal processes to become operational by the end of the year.

    The Chief Director at the Ministry of Land and Natural resources Professor Bruce Banoe-Yakubu said this at a workshop organized for the Parliamentary Press Corps on Ghana’s mining sector in Accra.

    He said despite the downturn of events in the sector, mining remains a driver of the nation’s economic growth.

    For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Sulemanu Koney called for the diversification of the nation’s mineral portfolio to derived the needed benefit from its mineral resources and avoid the over reliance on Gold.

    Also at the workshop was the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Dr. Tony Aubyn, he urged District Assemblies to do well to stop illegal mining and stop blaming the Commission for not stopping illegal mining in their districts.
