The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) says it is unaware of the hijacking of a vessel carrying crude oil from Ghana.
The VOA quoting Greek Maritime officials said about ten suspected pirates seized the vessel, a Greek-run oil tanker off the coast of Nigeria on Saturday.
The ship was said to be carrying oil from Ghana to Benin but the GNPC’s Director of Exploration and Production, Thomas Manu said their initial investigations suggest the crude is unlikely to be coming from Ghana.
“We are still investigating the reports but for sure the last lifting from Jubilee was on the 4th of July by Kosmos but currently as we speak, Tullow is in the process of lifting and I’m not sure they have even completed let alone the ship being in Nigeria to be hijacked,” he told Joy Business on Tuesday.
Mr Manu also indicated that “some crude was lifted from Saltpond [and] that was on the 28th of June” but all crude lifted from Ghana have safely reached their destinations.
